TefLabs

TefLabs is a research driven company formed in 1992 by Dr. A. Minta, Ph.D to provide scientists worldwide with a choice for better fluorescent indicators at reasonable and affordable costs. This drive has lead TEF Labs to develop new products that satisfy the deficiencies of current technologies by designing fluorescent and molecular probes that have better quantum yield, improved sensitivity and selectivity, reduced photobleaching, longer wavelengths, leakage resistance and ratiometric properties.

TefLabs products are currently being utilized in the area of Biochemistry, Biomolecular screening, Cell Biology, High throughput Screening, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Neuroscience.

We offer Bapta, Quin-2, Fura-2, Indo-1 and Rhod-2.

Fura-2 continues to be the most popular dye because of the shift in excitation wavelength which allows for ratio measurements. The ratiometric property eliminates variable effects such as cell loading, photobleaching, detector sensitivity, cell thickness and optical path. Indo-1 is the next most popular dye, and is also ratiometric. The syntheses of these two dyes have been known for over twelve years and have been done in our labs so often that we can purify them to 100% by HPLC. Both dyes have their absorption in the UV region.



Bapta and Quin-2 were the first usable calcium indicators and they are still popular for specific applications. All these dyes are available in HPLC grade purity and are reasonably priced.

Zinc

We offer TSQ9, the most common stain for Zinc, developed by Dr. Fredrickson. In addition, we have developed a water soluble version TFLZn which has found a great application in the imaging of zinc in synaptic terminals of live hippocampal slices by Dr. Alan Kay.

Magnesium

Furaptra2 or Magfura and Mag-Indo are fura and indo versions of a partial Bapta that work well as magnesium indicators. These are available in the form of potassium salt and the acetoxymethyl ester. We now have the fluo-3 version for measurement with visible light. For a long time these dyes were used for measuring high calcium but our recent offering of the FF series is allowing scientists to restrict their use to magnesium.

pH Indicators

BCECF1 still remains the indicator of choice for measuring pH in cells, primarily because of its ideal pKa and its ratioability. BCECF is available from Tef Labs in the free acid form and the acetoxymethyl ester form.
